THE ARLINGTON HEIGHTS SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL (SSC)
Last Update: 01/04/09
BACKGROUND
The California Legislature believes that the individuals who are most affected by the operation of their school should have a major role in deciding how a school functions. Education is viewed as a joint effort of parents, teachers, administrators, and other school staff whose common goal is the success of ALL students. Enabling legislation in 1973 required all schools receiving state or federal categorical and/or special funding to create an on site School Site Council (SSC). The primary focus of the SSC is matching the school’s academic instructional program with the related categorical resources for the benefit of ALL students. As a recipient of School Improvement Program (SIP) funding, Arlington Heights maintains an SSC.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS SSC
The Arlington Heights SSC is comprised of the principal, teachers, non classified staff, and parents. The council meets routinely on the first Wednesday of the month at 4:00 PM in the Library (Room K-1) but may meet in special session if the need arises. Meetings are open to parents and the general public. The horizontal quick link tabs on the next page can be used to find SSC member contact information, access a copy of the next meeting’s agenda (5 working days prior to the scheduled meeting), or access copies of the SSC Minutes for meetings held during the current school year. Input is earnestly sought from the Arlington Heights parents and general public.
MEMBERSHIP
The next election for SSC membership will be held in May during the school’s Open House. Interested parties should contact the SSC Secretary, or other council members, for information.
