FAMILY-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
It is our goal here at Barrett for families to feel welcome and supported. We believe that Parent Involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication with their student's school. When this occurs families and schools are better able to provide students with the assistance they need to reach their potential. Check out the links below for information and strategies to strengthen the family-school relationship and the academic success of your student.
Parent/Family Involvement Each year parents and the school get together to create a plan to increase parent involvement through a variety of ways that will meet the needs of all parents. Our current Parent Involvement Policy lists the many ways you can stay informed and involved in your student's education. School Site Plan Take a look at the Barrett School Site Plan to see what type of goals have been developed to help students reach their potential. School Site Council Who are we? A group of parents, teachers, and the principal. What do we do? Create a plan to improve student performance. Come join the School Site Council and help us provide EVERY student with the opportunity to succeed! Look on the calendar for the next meeting or call the school office (971-7842) to get more information. PTA A group of parents work with the school to provide fundraising opportunities that strengthen the academic supports for all students. Strong family-school partnerships increase student academic achievement. While we want you attend a PTA and School Site Council meeting we understand sometimes this just isn't possible. We still want to hear from you - please email the school principal, Lisa Herstrom-Smith with any parent involvement ideas. We believe every parent can make a difference in their child's education.  Check out our volunteer sign up form for ways to become involved.
RESOURCES ~ The SEDL Interactive Module supports the most recent information about creating family school partnerships. The Family-Friendly Schools Online Virtual Reality Tour was created to illustrate a variety of elements that might be present in your Family Friendly Partnership School. Beyond the Bake Sale is a book that reveals how to build strong collaborative relationships and offers practical advice for improving interactions between parents and teachers, from insuring that PTA groups are constructive and inclusive to navigating the complex issues surrounding diversity in the classroom. 2009-2010 Education News Parents Can Use Webcasts focuses on schools, learning and the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. On the third Tuesday of each month during the school year, Education News airs live via satellite.  Archived show are shown within 24 hours of the live broadcasts.  Each show offers parents and anyone else with an interest in education vital information about getting involved in children's learning.  These shows are provided by the U.S. Department of Education.
