Good afternoon Bella Vista families. This is an important update on the threat of violence found last week at our school. I am grateful that the threatened violence did not come to pass. However, the impact of the threat alone has been very real. Instructional time was lost as many families kept students home. Perhaps more importantly, the threat caused anguish, uncertainty and fear in our community. Today, one of our students confessed to writing the message. The student said it was done as a prank to get a day off from school with no real intent to cause harm to anyone. However, an act that causes such disruption results in serious consequences. The student has been arrested on suspicion of a felony charge and booked into juvenile hall. The student will also be recommended for expulsion from Bella Vista. Though it saddens me greatly to see one of our students face such harsh consequences for a poor choice, the nature of the threat and anxiety it caused are unacceptable for our community. I want to thank our students, parents and staff members for everything they have done to come together during this challenging time and ensure the safety of our school.
