Graduation FAQ
Frequently asked questions about graduation.
When is graduation?
The 2010 graduation will be on Thursday 6/10/09.
Where is graduation?
The exact time and location of the 2010 graduation has yet to be determined. Traditionally it happens at 8am in "The Great Court," aka the quad.
Our staff & students put in a lot of extra work to decorate the quad for graduation, and it shows--it's truly beautiful, and what better place to honor the hard work of our graduates than the place they did it?
Why not in the stadium?
The staff & students fill the quad with 3,500 chairs. The stadium seats only 1,600. In addition, the audience is a lot closer to the graduates and the stage than if we were in the stadium.
Why a morning ceremony?
There are many reasons for a morning ceremony over an evening one. The temperature is better, it's been argued that the light is better for pictures, and we find that we have fewer problems with inebriated attendees.
Also, having an on-site graduation puts a lot of extra strain on our staff and students that have to set it up and tear it down. A morning ceremony puts more of that extra work during the staff's and the students' regular work day.
Where are the best spots for pictures?
I see many parents taking photos along the side walk that encircles the center set of chairs. However, in my opinion the best spot for pictures and hugs is to the right of the stairs, under the evergreens as the students exit the stage down the ramp.
DVD available?
Yes! Our own BVTV films and edits the whole ceremony and is able to offer a DVD of the commencement and ceremory to you for only $10 pre-paid. The day of graduation, price goes up to $15, so get yours reserved today! Check with mike.berry@sanjuan.edu with any questions.
Where do I park?!
There are only two areas to park. The student lot fills up by about 50min before the ceremony begins, at which time we have 12 teachers directing traffic from the student lot, through the outdoor basketball courts, and into a spot on our baseball & softball fields. The outdoor basketball courts themselves are reserved for those with handicapped placards and is a nice short walk to the quad around the large gym. Take a look at the below attachment, "Where Do I Park?!"
