Message from our Principal
Welcome to Bella Vista High School and the 2009-2010 school year. We are gearing up for opening day, August 24th, and we look forward to welcoming the nearly 1,850 students who are enrolled. Opportunities for student and parent involvement abound, and I encourage you all to find out how you can be an integral part of the Bella Vista community.
The beginning of a new school year is an excellent time to set goals and create a plan for success. I encourage all students to meet their school counselor, take the most challenging courses possible, excel, and open doors of opportunity for themselves. Top-notch learning and making great memories are what Bella Vista is all about; step up and take advantage!
We are happy about a few campus improvements that have taken place this past year:
- Our Academic Performance score has continued to rise. We look forward to the 09 scores to see if we have topped last year’s 826 API.
- The tennis courts are being completely reconstructed and we will have our tennis team back on campus for the first time in years.
- We have made good use of the space afforded us by the independent study program moving off campus.
- Teachers are getting familiar with a new data system (DataDirector) to analyze student performance on specific standards, and are using this information to modify their instruction to target areas of need.
- We had major improvements to the venting system in our Chemistry rooms.
This year we look forward to parents and students having access to attendance grades online through the new student information system (Zangle) the district is rolling out. Stay tuned for logon information. Teachers will be trained before school opens, and parents will have access from the start of school. Please be patient as teachers navigate a new grading system; it may take a couple of weeks for student grades to be posted.
We are in a full WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation year. This process is critically important as we conduct a self-study of our school programs, and we need your involvement! August 20th we will hold all day meetings and we need both parent and student representatives to be included. Your input is valuable as we look at how we do business. Please consider dedicating that day to our committee work, and email Anne Whitford to express your interest at awhitford@sanjuan.edu
Anne is our WASC coordinator, and she would love to hear from you.
Thank you for checking out our website. Email mike.berry@sanjuan.edu with any suggestions for improved communication to you.
Have a great school year, and stop by to introduce yourself when you are in the office some time!
