Dress Code Rules
SJUSD MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE RATIONALE
In an effort to easily identify SJUSD students and insure their safety, the following dress code shall be in effect for all students while they are on SJUSD Middle School campuses during the 2009-2010 school year.
Pants/Skirts/Shorts:
· Pants and shorts must fit appropriately and be worn at the waist
· Shorts and skirts must be at least mid-thigh in length
· Clothing must be in good repair
· No pajama bottoms
Shirts/Dresses:
· All shirts/dresses must either have a collar or sleeves
Headgear:
· Headgear is to be removed when inside buildings.
· Bandanas, skull caps, head-nets, baseball caps, etc. are not allowed
· Hats with a brim may be worn for sun protection only during PE. They must have a minimum 2 inch brim around the entire hat
Shoes:
· Must be worn at all times.
· Shoes need to have backs or heel straps
· Shoes with any wheels are not allowed
Jewelry/Accessories
· Must be safe and free of reference to gangs, drugs, tobacco products, alcohol, sexual representations, or violence.
· Spike accessories and chains are not allowed
· Sunglasses must be removed in classes
General
· Undergarments, cleavage, torso, chest, backs and stomachs must be covered at all times
· Any fashion/attire that creates a distraction to the educational environment is not allowed.
· Any fashion/attire that is considered by school officials and/or law enforcement to denote gang affiliation, cult affiliation, satanic reference, profane or racially offensive messages, or presents a safety is not allowed.
· Clothing must be worn as originally intended.
Consequences:
At all levels of discipline a change of clothes will be required.
· 1st – Warning
· 2nd – Work Study
· 3rd – Silent Learning Center – all day
· 4th – Thursday School. (No show for Thursday school will result in suspension)
