2007-08 Don Tipton Scholar Athlete Award Winners
Mr. Tipton was a teacher, vice principal and principal at Andrew Carnegie from 1971-1980. He served in the San Juan District as an administrator and teacher for 41 years. As an official Mr. Tipton was deeply involved in local high school and college sports, and he served as the commissioner of the Northern California Officials Association for 25 years. Don Tipton held the values of education and the role that athletics can play in the development of well-rounded students in high regard. It is in honor of his service to education and athletics that this award has been established.
Criteria: 2 sports at Carnegie, 3.5 GPA, recommendation from the coaching staff. Chosen by the coaching staff at Carnegie based on academics, character and contributions to athletics at Carnegie.
7th grade girls – Michelle Hernandez Competitive volleyball and competitive basketball. 4.0 gpa and all outstandings in citizenship – 18 O’s
7th grade boys – Cody McDonald Flag football and track and field. 3.61 gpa 12 outstandings in citizenship
8th grade girls – Shelby Stepper Volleyball, competitive basketball and track and field. 3.72 gpa 16 outstandings in citizenship
8th grade boys – David Alvarado Wrestling and track and field. 3.72 gpa 14 outstandings in citizenship.
