Middle School Intervention - Academic Makeup
Background: There is increasing concern that too many students are socially promoted; thus, they do not achieve the fundamental skills needed to pass the High School Exit Exam and go on to a successful adult life. Therefore, students will be assigned to summer school for the following reasons:
- Students who have not earned 4 points in each core subject by the end of the 3rd quarter, March 27, 2008 will be signed up for five weeks of summer school.
- The focus of the remedial summer school curriculum will be reading, math, and academic makeup.
- Students who achieve the requisite points but who score low on standardized tests are strongly recommended to attend summer school to build skills.
- In addition, students receiving an "F" in the 4th quarter will be evaluated for Summer School and/or retention.
- Just as a reminder: This is how points are earned throughout the year. Students need to earn a minimum total of four points in each subject for the year. Points are awarded according to the letter grade:
A = 4 points B = 3 points C = 2 points D = 1 point F = 0 points
Please help your child stay focused on the school work assigned during the year, and check their work to see that it is completed correctly. Be sure to sign their completed agenda book weekly. If you notice that your chid is having academic difficulty, please contact teachers and set-up a team meeting.
