Student Accomplishments

Andrew Carnegie Middle School is very lucky to have so many accomplished students.  From writers to artists, from photographers to athletes, Carnegie students show excellence in a wide variety of areas. The entire school community is proud of these great kids.

Below are just a few of the contest winners and students who have gone on to compete in the larger community:

2008 SEVA Awards
Carnegie won in three categories at the 2008 SEVA awards: Instructional, Public Service Announcements, and School News and Events.  We are so proud of our talented video producers and musicians.

We would like to congratulate Karah Kingsbury for "How to Use Soda" which took first place in the Instructional category.

In the Public Service Announcements category, we congratulate Alex Newton, Tessa Sandoval, Briana Owen, Lindsey Sramek with music by Pavel Silchuk, who won for "Reach Out."

And, in School News and Events, our winners were Lindsee Grenz and Corey Olson for "Boys Basketball Action."

We also took home honorable mention in the PSA category for the video, "Bobert & Billbert" by Nick Lampl with music by Camillo Masagili.

Ryan Fackler represented Carnegie as a Guest Host for the School News and Events category, handing out awards to student video producers from all age groups.  He also showcased his paparazzi talents by interviewing SEVA entrants on the red carpet prior to the show.

The SEVA Winners Reel will air June 4th and 5th at 5:00 pm on Comcast Cable 21.  The SEVA Awards Night highlights will air on June 11 and 12th and 5:00 on Comcast Cable 15 or Surewest Cable 21.

Congratulations also go to Mr. Weitzel, who gives the students the tools and instruction which enabled them to do these wonderful projects.

Don't Buy the Lie Contest
Congratulations goes to Stefani Blackburn, who is runner-up in the "Don't Buy the Lie" art contest.  Stefani will receive a $50.00 prize and will be among those honored in a reception Hosted by Senator Darrell Steinberg with Keynote Speaker Victor DeNoble at the State Capitol.

Announcing - County Reflections Winners!

We are proud to announce that three of our students have won the Third District Reflections Awards. Hallie Smith and Kara Kingsbury both came in first and received an Award of Excellence, and will be moving on to the state competition. Camillo Massagli and Deanna Robbins both came in second place, with an Award of Merit. The Thirds District PTA covers eight counties: Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba. We are very proud of these talented young people and wish them well as they move on to State.

Carnegie Students Inspire!

Three Carnegie students are recipients of the 2007-2008 Youth Inspire! Award. Amber Duncan, Mike Garcia, and Brittan Leineke were nominated by individuals who were inspired by them and are proud of their efforts to make Sacramento County a better place. Congratulations!

Science Olympiad team brings home six medals!

The Science Olympiad team did a great job Saturday and ended up bringing home six medals. Josh Hepworth and Sidney Small each won two medals for their efforts in "Robo-Cross" and "Simple Machines," and Zoe Warp and Lisa Wasielewski also won in their catapult event! The overall team did very well, and we finished in sixth place out of 19 teams. Congratulations, Scots!

DAR Essay Contest Winners
Congratulations to fabulous writers Evan Chapman and Nicholas Dunlap, who won the district challenge and are now moving on to the state competition in the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest.  The topic they had to write on was "I Spy - Espionage During the American Revolution."   They were first in the district and first in the chapter!

Another first: this was the first time ever that two students were chosen to move on!

We also want to congratulate Barbara Dickson and Olivia Del Bono who came in second.  All four of the essays were read at a reception in Roseville.

Please check the newspaper for the story, as the media was there and photos of our brilliant Carnegie writers were taken and should be publicized.  Good luck to Evan and Nicholas as they move on to the state finals.

Geography Bee
The Geography Bee was won by Andrew Thompson of the Phoenix team.  Thanks to Mrs. Jacobson for presiding over the competition, and congratulations to Andrew!

VFW Essay Contest - Orangevale Division

Katherine Anderson turned in the prize-winning essay in the Veterans of Foreign Wars essay contest, Citrus Heights Division. Katherine's essay will now be entered in the regional contest, and she also won a cash prize of $50.00. Good job, Katherine!

Announcing the Carnegie spelling bee winners!  In first place: Vishal Sharma. In second, Damien Beck, and third place was Cody Cova. The winning word was "poinsettia." Vishal will now go on to the regional spelling bee for a chance to win the national spelling bee competition.  Good luck, Vishal!

The Daughters of the American Revolution announced the winners for their yearly American History essay contest, and all four middle school winners were Carnegie students! A big congratulations to 1st place winners Evan Chapman and Nicholas Dunlap, and 2nd place winners Barbara Dickson and Olivia Del Bono. The topic this year was "American Revolutionary War Spies."
