Our schools are closed November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.As the first trimester of school comes to an end, it is a welcome a break in the middle of the week. While you are sitting at home in your PJs catching up on your favorite book, keep in mind what the day is really about.
Veterans Day is a day that we come together as a Nation to thank and honor Veterans for their service. Our Veterans have sacrificed much of themselves to uphold the values upon which our Nation was founded. They show service to a cause greater than themselves.
One of my favorite images I have growing up was my father’s military jacket. It was so regal looking, and the material was thick and heavy in my hands when I touched it.I didn’t know at the time why I felt proud when I read the name “Ramirez” on the pocket.Looking back, I think it was because my dad looked so proud when we showed it to me.
It is always nice to have a day off in the middle of the week. But no matter what, I always find the time to call my dad and tell him thanks for all he did for me and for his service to our country.
Enjoy the day off.And find the time to thank a Veteran. It will bring a tear to their eyes.
