School to Career Committee
Purpose
The School to Career Committee (SCC) is a part of the PTSA. The Committee is comprised of the school Principal, counselors, and parent volunteers who provide resources to Casa students to help them identify their options after high school, e.g., college, jobs, or military options through such events as:
Semi-Annual interview sessions of Casa Sophomores and Juniors
Parent volunteers help at these events in November and March by getting students to talk about what they want to do after high school and then share with them resources available to help achieve those goals. It’s a very helpful tool for students, and parents enjoy the experience of talking to these soon-to-be adults. No previous experience is necessary; quick training for the volunteers is done that morning by the School Counselor. Volunteers sign up with the Committee Chair (see below).
College Application & Money Night
Students explore college websites, take personality trait tests to help identify some potential careers that may be of interest to them; gives students some more ideas. Guest speakers discuss scholarships and college funding resources that are available to students.
FAFSA Night
Counselors walk students and their parents through the Federal FAFSA I application in December each year in preparation for the actual January filing that is mandatory for any student entering college and looking for supplemental financial resources.
School to Career Center – located in the Casa Library
Resources for students on colleges, scholarships, college testing (SAT, ACT), funding sources for college, military contact information, and more. Students are welcome to browse and even check-out college brochures.
