The 2008-2009 Science Olympiad season saw over 100 students apply and complete the 3 day tryout process in mid November. From that group we selected 25 students who joined the 5 freshman to form an A and a B team. Those students then were assigned 2-4 events each which they practiced and studied for 4 months. They worked diligently after school with teachers, at home with parents and even on weekends. At the regional competition in March the A team placed 1st and the B team placed 2nd out of the 20 middle school teams entered. This was our school's BEST EVER showing at the regionals! The A team advanced to the Norcal State Finals in April held at Delta College in Stockton where they finished 2nd out of the 16 schools that qualified. If you are interested in Science... if you like competition... if you want to have some fun... be sure to try out for the 2009-2010 team!
Description: Science Olympiad is a competition that includes a variety of different Science related events. Churchill will have tryouts and form a team. That team will then prepare for the events for several months. In the Spring we compete at Sac State against other area middle schools. If we do well, then we move on to state and even national competition.
Head Coaches: Mr. Jungk and Mr. Sherriff.
Assistant Event Coaches: Mrs. Hollenbeck, Mr. Brownell, Mrs. Kauer, Mr. Ford, Dr. Barrett, Dr. Desai, Mrs. Beaman, Melanie Reeves and other teachers, parents and community members TBA.
Tryouts: Tryouts for the 2009-2010 team will be held November 16th and 17th (Monday and Tuesday) from 2:45-4:00PM. You must be present to be considered for the team. Meet in the MP room.
Team Size: 25 members will be selected from the expected 80+ applicants. There will be team members selected from all grade levels.
