As I write this letter, we have moved into the fifth week of school.I am pleased to say that opening of school has gone very well considering the fact that we have 1917 students. This is the largest (600) freshman class we have had at Del Campo in years.Thank you to each and every one of you who may have had a child whose schedule was changed the second week of school in order to balance classes and accommodate new teachers. The staff and I appreciate your support!
Homecoming Week is October 5-9.Classes will be decorating halls the evenings of October 6, 7, 8. The transformation that takes place is pretty impressive and unique to Del Campo.Encourage your students to get involved.Parents are encouraged to support the week’s activities and are encouraged to drop by to see what goes on.The classes are looking for donations to make the halls extra special for judging and viewing on Thursday morning. The rally is on Friday as is the football game. The Homecoming Dance is from 9:00 to midnight on Saturday.
It is very important to point out that entrance to DC dances requires a current Del Campo ID card and a pre-sold ticket.Any student who plans to bring an off-campus guest must obtain a guest bid from the administration office. Each guest must arrive with the DC student and present the guest bid, a picture ID and a pre-sold ticket.Students who do not arrive with the outlined items will not be admitted to the dance. No tickets will be sold at the door.
The first semester final exams are coming up on October 22 for periods 1 and 2 and on October 23 for periods 3 and 4.School will be dismissed both days at 12:15.Please note this ends the first semester and the grades students earn will be permanent and appear on their transcripts.
Do you want to make a difference for Del Campo students?DeCCA (Del Campo College and CareerAcademy) needs your help on October 27 or 28!DeCCA is in its ninth year of operation providing college and career information to Del Campo students. The goal of the program is to help students make informed decisions about life after high school. The vehicle for DeCCA is parent volunteers, who sit down one-on-one with students to share information. It is such a positive interaction that some parents even take a day off from work to participate. All the materials are provided for you, and, after one hour of training, you are an expert. If you are interested in helping or want to know more about DeCCA, please call counselor Bruce Armes at 971-5660 and he will connect you with the coordinator.
As we move into November, our fall term Renaissance Breakfast is scheduled for November 6. Since we will be saluting students for their 2009 spring term grades, freshmen are not eligible to attend.Remember that students must apply to receive this recognition, so please remind your children to turn their applications in before the deadline. This is always a special activity that I encourage parents to attend with their children.
