Principal's Message
A little hardwork pays off! Thank you to everyone who came out last Sunday for our second Beautification Day. I greatly appreciate the efforts of the coordinators of this event, Marisa Alcalay and Kristen Calderon. Flowers were planted, weeds pulled and things trimmed. Everything looks great! Our next Beautification Day will be in the Spring.
Student safety and parent safety are very important to us. Please remind your child to wear a helmet when riding a bike. If you park across the street from the school when picking up your child please set a good example by using the crosswalk only to return to your car. Crossing in the middle of the street is not only dangerous but also sets a bad example for our children.
Open Enrollment is coming! Open Enrollment is a San Juan Unified School District program that allows for school choice. Parents of our fifth and sixth graders are provided with information about their resident school assignments for middle school. If parents want their children to attend schools other than their home school, they must go through Open Enrollment. This year Open Enrollment will begin on November 16 th and continue until January 29 th . If you want more details about this program please see the district's website.
Our Character Education theme for November and December is perseverance and confidence. Examples of daily messages include quotes on overcoming failure and obstacles, dreams, work ethic, confidence, goals, success in school, and for the holidays, gratitude, generosity and charity. These messages are helping our students to be kind, be responsible and be the best they can be and as always reminds them to, "Make it a great day . . .or not. The choice is yours."
The Student Council continues to gather cans for the KIDS'S CAN! canned food drive. Classrooms are collecting non-perishable food cans and boxes until November 20 th . Our food will go to the Carmichael Food Bank. We greatly appreciate everyone's support in helping us do our part in supporting needy families in our area.
