Wetherall Library
Welcome back to school! It’s so exciting to see the many new faces amongst the familiar ones.
Library information:
I work 30 hours/week. My hours vary slightly. I am here during the core hours of 8:00 to 2:30 Monday through Thursday. I work a half-day on Fridays.
All classes come to the library for 30 minutes per week as scheduled. All classes have their library periods on Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays except for Kindergarteners who will all come to the library on Tuesdays.
Parents are welcome to check extra books out when there are no classes in the library.
Basic library rules apply. Overdue fines are not levied and there is no charge for normal wear and tear. Students and families are expected to be responsible for lost or damaged books. Report cards are held for overdue books. Please do not replace a book without consulting with me first.
Check out policy is as follows:
Kindergarten and first graders are allowed 1 book for 1 week
Second graders are allowed 2 books for 2 weeks
Third through sixth graders are allowed 3 books for 2 weeks
Parents are allowed up to 20 books for 30 days
Several times per year the library hosts a FAMILY LIBRARY NIGHT. This was started in 1992 after a suggestion from a PTO parent as a way to include parents and encourage family participation in reading and the enjoyment of books. It has been extremely successful in providing a friendly, social atmosphere for parents to spend a bit of time at the library with their children as well as with other Del Dayo families. Take a look at the selections of books just for parents.
Hours are always 6:30pm to 8:00pm, the days vary. Families are free to arrive and leave at any time during these 90 minutes. Siblings are welcome; adults must supervise their children. Dates will be posted in the newsletter. The first Family Library Night of the year will be in September.
The library hosts a Scholastic Book Fair two times per year. Our first fair will be October 7 to October 16; the second one will be in May. These are the only fund-raisers specifically for the library. Parent volunteers and support make these very successful and are key to having one of the best elementary school libraries in the district.
The Del Dayo Birthday Book Club offers a chance for students to donate a new book to the library in celebration of their birthday. Last year over one hundred beautiful books were donated. Students are acknowledged in the newsletter and at spirit assemblies.
There are lots of volunteer opportunities in the library. Most classes come to the library with a parent helper (ask your child if his/her class needs one). Book fairs require lots of extra help. Wednesdays will be a general workday to process new books. If you are looking for a friendly and flexible place to volunteer please consider the library.
HAPPY READING!
