Welcome!
The Del Paso Manor Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) welcomes you to the 2009-10 school year! As you already know—or will soon see—DPM is a wonderful school, thanks to a staff of amazing teachers and administrators and a community of terrific students and parents. The PTA is a group of parents and teachers who work hard to provide a more positive future for not only their own children, but for all children in the community. Last year, the PTA provided nearly $26,000 in funds for programs benefitting all DPM students, including field trips, a dance program, school assemblies, funds for the library, family fun nights, supplemental funding for classrooms, campus beautification, and more…

This year, we can expect to see more funding cuts as the current budget crises continue, but we firmly believe DPM families are up to the challenge and will continue to provide the very best education to our children, both at home and at school.
We can DO this—TOGETHER! Here are some ways you can help:

1. Please Join!
Did you know that children improve academically when their parents are involved? Plus,
being involved with the PTA also gives YOU the opportunity to work with teachers and to be a positive role-model for kids. PTA membership costs just $6 a person and $12 per family. Membership is open to anyone interested in the welfare of our children—not just parents, but also grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors, community businesses, students, and staff can join our organization. By joining, you can be an “agent of change,” and voice your concerns and ideas with a group of like individuals who have a similar vision and hope for children, for education, and for our community.

You may feel you don’t have time, and we understand that. However, it is your interest that counts. If you are unable to support the PTA with time, please consider giving your financial support.

Simply complete the personal information portion of the form and enclose your check
(made payable to DPM PTA), and you will be added to our membership roster.
Of course, any contribution above the membership fee would be greatly appreciated!
Although we strive to keep fundraising to a minimum, it IS necessary. If you’d rather make a one-time donation and sidestep fundraising this year, that would be perfectly fine!!! (Of course, we also have easy, year-round ways to raise funds for the school. By collecting BoxTops and Campbell’s labels, we raised $1,030 last year! We also participate in grocery card programs at Safeway, Raley’s/BelAir, SaveMart, and FoodMaxx, so that’s another easy way to earn money for the school without spending a penny out of your own pocket.

2. Get involved! Share your time and talents!

There are likely to be significant gaps between what DPM needs in order to provide the best possible education for our kids and what the School District can provide in light of the current economy. However, DPM families have talents we can share with DPM to close those gaps! Please make a two-hour time commitment this school year, and help any way you choose--in the classroom, at a PTA event, whatever!!! Below, you will find short
descriptions of specific volunteer opportunities.

Please complete the volunteer interests and skills assessment portion of the attached form, so we can make suggestions as to where your skills can help the most.

3. Get connected!
The Del Paso Manor PTA will be publishing a directory of students and their families again this year. Having a directory facilitates communication with other families in the DPM community and aids in making arrangements for rides, homework, school and social
activities.

Please check the box to opt in and have your contact information printed in this year’s
directory. (Only those who are listed will receive a copy of the directory.) In addition,
please check the box to sign up to receive emails from DPM PTA and stay connected.

4. Show your spirit!
DPM is bringing back Spirit Wear Fridays! All students, parents, teachers, and staff are
encouraged to wear DPM shirts and colors every Friday. We will offer spirit wear by special order once school begins. Watch for flyers and order forms!

We all have a stake in educating our children, since our children are our future.

Why join PTA? Join to become an active participant in developing that future;
to ensure that every child’s voice is heard.
PLEASE RETURN COMPLETED FORM AND MEMBERSHIP PAYMENTS
TO YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER BY FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH.

Thank you for all you do for Del Paso Manor!
