Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Edison!  I am very excited to begin the 2009/2010 school year!  I began as principal of Edison in January of 2008.  Previously, I was a teacher at Edison for 9 years.  I ran the after school program at the school and coached both basketball and baseball teams at the school.  I then was hired as vice principal at Skycrest Elementary School and then Dyer-Kelly Elementary School.  I am very excited to be back at Edison which I consider to be home!

Edison has seen tremendous academic growth in the past few years.  The API score for the school made a jump from 645 to 722 two years ago.  At the time it was the largest growth of any school in the San Juan Unified School District.  This year we are still waiting for final results but it does look like the score will be closer to 700.  Although I am disappointed that the scores fell slightly, I am still extremely proud of what is happening at the school.  We have a dedicated staff who are working collaboratively with each other in order to provide a quality education to all of our children.  I have studied school improvement for several years now and understand that growth periods are normally followed by a leveling off time where practices are fine tuned.  Growth usually follows this period and it is what I expect to happen at Edison.  Our goal is to be recognized in the future as a California Distinguished School and we are working hard to make this a reality.

Our tutoring program will continue this year.  We have approximately 100 volunteers at Edison each week!  The tutors help students master what we call “Absolutes.”  Each grade level has their own absolutes and all students are expected to master them by the end of the year.  We also have a second tutoring program beginning this year.  Reading Partners, literacy reader, will be offered to approximately 40-50 students.  Each student will receive one to one tutoring twice a week for one hour each time.  Jenny Cauley, a parent at the school, is the Site Coordinator of this program.

We are also working on creating an entirely new field this year.  We are working on having two baseball fields, 2 soccer fields, a flag football field, and a track.  This is our “Field of Dreams!”  The school is also scheduled to be painted next summer!

Please feel free to call me at 575-2342, email me at tlindeman@sanjuan.edu, or talk to me at school if you have any questions.  Thank you for your continued support!
