For further information: | AVID began at Encina in 1998, but Encina didn't become a certified AVID site until 1999. Each year AVID at Encina has grown in size. We went from offering simply one section (28 students) in 1998 for two terms or half the year to offering five sections (three of which are all year or four terms) (152 students enrolled). We went from having only a few AVID students enrolled in rigorous courses such as AP and honors classes to 90% of our senior class this year enrolled in some type of honors, AP, or college course in high school. Academically, AVID has assisted students in improved grades and test scores. Encina's AVID program was the only one in the district last year in which all AVID seniors were accepted to a four year college. This year (2006/2007) 18 out of 22 were accepted to four year colleges. When comparing CAHSEE scores for the class of 2008 AVID compared to non AVID, 78.% non AVID passed and 93.8% AVID passed.
