NOTES FROM THE PTA
First Annual Adult Auction Dinner
May 10th, 2014
Our first Annual Adult Auction Dinner tickets are officially for sale! Some amazing items have been donated this year and we will continue to get even more donations. We would appreciate as many volunteers that can help before or the day of the event as well. If we all work hard, we feel we can raise money to finally build our “track” for our students, and school grounds. Attached is a PDF for the ticket sales. Next meeting is Wed. at Roundtable on Hazel and Madison, 7-9.
Please contact Crystal Thorns if you would like to participate with donations or volunteer in any way.
Our school is the top performing Elementary school in SJUSD. One reason is because of the amazing parental involvement that we have at Green Oaks. While it's not required, it is suggested that each family give 30 hours of their year to volunteer in some way to support the programs at Green Oaks. This can be filled through volunteering in the classroom, library, media lab, or at any PTA event. If you are looking for ways to fulfill your 30 hours, please contact your child's teacher or the PTA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please take a moment to take a brief survey to help the PTA better serve our Green Oaks Community
Are you a paid PTA member? Well if you are then you should be receiving PTA emails from time to time. If you are NOT receiving emails (we sent out one last week with the PTA meeting minutes) then we'd love to add you to our list. To be added, please email Paula Smart our PTA Membership Drive Coordinator at email@example.com

The Board meets every third Tuesday of the month at 5pm. in the Green Oaks library.
BEAVER BUCK STORE DONATIONS NEEDED!
Are you cleaning out the kid's bedrooms over the break? Making room for all those holiday gifts? Please bring any of your gently used toys to the office for our December 10th Beaver Buck Store. We could also use plastic grocery bags so the kids can carry their loot! Thank u so much!
We are in need of volunteers for the Beaver Buck Store all year long, so please let us know by emailing Jennifer Hobdy at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteers are always welcome in the Media Center (Library and Computer Lab.) Students really enjoy being able to use the computers or check out books during their lunch period. Contact Mrs. Wilson, email@example.com, if you would like to be involved in this important resource at Green Oaks.
The 21st Annual Green Oaks
Jog-A-Thon was like no other!
The rain tried to put a kink in our annual tradition, but with some creative thinking, we altered our plan and turned it into a “walk-a-thon.” Most of the classes took a path through the hallways, which meant it wasn’t feasible to mark cards. We were able to mark cards for the few classes that walked around the blacktop, and then popsicles were passed out to all after lunch. Although some might have been disappointed in not jogging around the field, it was a tribute to the students & faculty of how to be flexible and supportive. Overall, it was still a huge Green Oaks success!!!
Traditionally, the Jog-a-Thon is a quick and SAFE fundraiser (keeping our kids from going door to door) which has historically financed many of our programs at Green Oaks. You can aid in keeping it viable by helping your Beaver(s) collect all their pledges. Because of the altered plans, not every class got their lap cards marked. We’re hoping that the spirit of the event (whether jogging or walking) will continue to motivate us to still give & collect as planned. Please note that to qualify for a prize, the deadline for turning in donations is Friday, April 25th. Pledge sheets and monies (in an envelope) need to be turned into your child’s classroom by this date. DO NOT SEND LARGE AMOUNTS of cash/checks with your student. Instead, turn them directly into the office.
Again, thank you for your financial support of our school and a HUGE “Thank You” to all the wonderful volunteers…your efforts are so appreciated!!!

The parking spot in our front parking lot that is labeled"Parent Reserved" is for our winner of the live auction at the Fall Social ONLY! The family generously donated to have that spot all year. Please do not park there, even if it is the only empty spot, unless your name was on that check. Thank you so much.

HAVE YOU TURNED IN YOUR FOGO???
FOGO stands for Friends of Green Oaks. It is simply a cash donation that you are making to your child's PTA. We use the money to fund all of the school-wide programs and events The form is below if you didn't get one from school. Remember, we do FOGO so that we do not have to send our kids door to door selling things like candy and gift wrap. Without all of our families supporting this, we will have to resort to selling product. No amount is too small (or too big!) Please turn in your form. Remember, any amount you pay is tax deductible!
If you have not signed up to be a member of our PTA, please do so. It is only $6.00 and with that comes your right to vote on "official matters". This includes, but is not limited to, voting for our new Board for the next school year. Please come into the office for envelopes if you need one.
As district funding continues to decline, the role of the PTA in supporting our school becomes increasingly important. Please help us to maintain our high quality of programs and classroom support. Check out how you can help Green Oaks on our Fund Raising link.
