Mission & Vision Statement
School Mission and Vision Statement
The mission at Greer is to develop students who view themselves as capable individuals who can successfully face the challenges of the future. We believe they can face these challenges by becoming life long self directed learners. To this end our students will be taught:
To effectively communicate their thoughts and feelings
To resolve conflicts peacefully and ethically
To work collaboratively with others
To contribute positively to their communities
To know their strengths
To think critically and creatively
Vision
School will be a psychologically safe place where students, parents, teachers and student teachers will work collaboratively to provide an environment that enables all learners to reach their individual potential. All students will learn how to read, write, and compute at or above grade level standards. They will apply their knowledge and skills in multiple ways. Students will have the opportunity to understand, anticipate, and cope with change and diversity. By taking responsibility for the learning process, students will be empowered to shape their own future. All of the students, parents, teachers and student teachers will value the need to have education become a lifelong endeavor.
Philosophy
All children need. . .
To learn joyously and enthusiastically
To learn cooperation for the well-being of society
To learn discipline by stimulation from within
To learn responsibility by being given responsibility
To learn empathy for others by becoming sensitive to them
To learn a sense of security that comes from the faith that we can cope with the insecurity of life
To learn self-esteem by living without shame or guilt
To learn to like oneself, by feeling accepted as one is
To learn to reason and make decisions by participating in decision making
To learn appreciation by respecting the contribution each person makes
To learn confidence by living with encouragement
Our Goals for all Students
At Greer Elementary School, we firmly believe that students need to develop some basic habits to help them become successful life-long learners. As they develop academically, we want all students to become:
COMPLEX THINKERS who identify, access, integrate, and use available resources and information to reason, make decisions, and solve complex problems in a variety of contexts.
COLLABORATIVE WORKERS who use effective leadership and group skills to develop and manage interpersonal relationships within culturally and organizationally diverse settings.
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTORS who contribute their time, energies, and talents to improving the welfare of others and quality of life in their diverse communities.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS who share their thinking and feelings with others through writing, speaking, artistic performances and productions, and through discussion and conversation.
Realizing that developing these habits take special encouragement, we have developed many extra school programs and opportunities for students including lunch and after school tutoring and interest clubs and family nights.
