DISMISSAL: All classes are walked to the front of the school to meet parents/guardians, siblings, carpool and bus. Parents, guardians, siblings and daycare providers are to meet their child/ren in front of the school.
Parents of kindergartners meet at the kindergarten gate at the front of the school.
Walkers and bike riders are to walk off campus using the new sidewalk. Once off campus, bike riders may get on their bikes.
Bus Riders go the M.P. room and sit according to their grade level until time to board their bus. An adult will walk those students to the bus to load.
Carpoolers wait in front of the school by the flag pole until their ride arrives. An adult will supervise as the child gets in the vehicle.
*Teachers will not release students until they are in front of the school. The playground is the PE teacher’s classroom and needs to remain clear during school hours.
PARKING LOT:
The parking lot is one way. Look for the adults in the orange vests to guide you. There are three lanes marked off by cones. The lane closest to Hurley is the drive-through lane. It is not used for pick up. It is used for leaving once you have your child in your vehicle. The middle lane is for pick up. Once you have picked up your child, you may drive out. The lane closest to the school building is for buses only.
Parents coming in to pick up and drop off children pull to the middle lane. You can’t park there — it’s like the airport — you stay in your car. Tell your children they need to be right there by the school watching for your car. If they aren’t there, you should go around again, or plan to come just a little later to allow your child to get there.
If you need to go into the school to get your child or talk to the teacher, you will need to park in a space. Our parking lot is very congested at dismissal, but it starts clearing out after 2:40 p.m.
Students not picked up 15 minutes after dismissal are taken to the office to call for pick-up. Parents picking their child/ren up late need to come into the office to sign their child out.
Students on bicycles need to use the walkway, walk their bikes off campus and wear helmets. Bikes need to be locked up at the bike rack. Skateboards, scooters, roller skates, roller blades and shoes with wheels are not allowed on campus.
Be sure to use the crosswalk with your child modeling safety at all times. Cars and buses look for students in areas designated for safe crossing. No child is to walk/run across the parking lot to a waiting car or parent on the other side.
Please be courteous to staff members directing traffic in the parking lot. Our goal is safety for all.
Visiting the School: Visitors are welcome. To ensure the safety of our children, the San Juan Unified School District requires all visitors check in to the office, sign in and get a visitors pass. All visitors are to state their relationship to the child, show identification and wear a visitor badge while on campus. During the first two weeks of school kindergarten visitation needs to be arranged with the teacher as students at this age need time to bond with the teacher. Visitation is for adults as other children may disrupt instruction. Twenty-four hour notice is appreciated for class visitations.
Release During Class Hours: If it is necessary to take your child out during the school day, you must sign him/her out in the office. The adult checking the child out must be on the child’s emergency card and state their relationship to the child, show identification. The office staff will call the child to the office for pick up as not to disrupt instruction. To add an adult to your child’s emergency card, you must come into the office.
