About Our School

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!  We are looking forward to a rewarding year with your child and your family.

Dedicated and talented staff members work at Kingswood school to make sure that all children learn their grade level standards in a safe and caring environment.  This handbook contains valuable information that will help you understand the procedures that create the best learning experiences possible for all of our students. Our school emphasizes literacy, mathematics and technology along with the San Juan Unified School District’s Board-approved character traits of respect, responsibility, honesty, and courage.

Student safety is of the utmost importance in our school.  Kingswood School has a comprehensive safety and emergency plan in place and drills are practiced regularly so that students know what to do in the event of an emergency.  Kingswood also has student supervision plans in place that detail both classroom monitoring as well as monitoring before, during, and after school.  In Kingswood School we teach and emphasize five principals of our positive behavior plan: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready to Learn, and Be There.

Teaching respect and responsibility requires a joint effort between our school and our families. This partnership is very important to students’ success.  We pledge to work with you to build strong, positive relationships for the benefit of your child and all children.  We encourage you to be involved with your child’s school and education.  From making sure that your child is well rested and nourished, to volunteering at your child’s school, your involvement sets the stage for academic success.

Kingswood School prides itself on being a school that is highly collaborative and committed to the high achievement of every student.  We are a professional development school in partnership with California State University Sacramento, we provide a deep infusion of technology into all our programs, we have music and physical education specialists who work together to provide rich P.E. and Performing Arts experiences for all the children.

We encourage you to let us know when you have questions, feedback or concerns.  Our communication and partnership will help us work together for the benefit of your child and all children. I hope that you and your children enjoy a fantastic year of learning, growing, and enjoying school in 2009-2010.

Ms. Alicia Lawson, Principal

Mrs. Melissa Bassanelli, Vice Principal
