Student Assistance Program
Office of Student Assistance and Prevention Programs (OSAPP)
The San Juan Unified School District's comprehensive Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides a systematic process to identify, refer, educate and support students who exhibit behaviors that interfere with the learning process. SAP was selected as the winner of the 2004 Program of Excellence Award for exemplary program achievement in the student assistant field. This annual award was presented by the National Student Assistance Association (NSAA).
How It Works
Students are identified for participation in SAP through referrals from staff, parents, students or community members. Self referrals are accepted as well as internet referrals. If you are interested in referring yourself or someone else please submit a Student Concern Form.
Once a student is identified, an SAP Specialist meets with the student and discusses student strengths and areas needing improvement.
Students are provided referrals to district and community resources and may be invited to participate in support groups to enhance skill development.
Support Groups
SAP support groups offer an educational opportunity for youth to share, receive support and gain insight about common topics of interest to teens. These support groups are curriculum-based and provide education and awareness in the areas of communication, time management, appropriate emotional expression, goal setting, and positive decision making. Support group topics include:
- Anger Management
- Conflict Resolution
- Alcohol and Drug Awareness
- Recovery
- Family Stress
- Tobacco Cessation
- Life Skills
- Stress Management
- Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens
- Teen Relationships
