About Our School

     La Vista Center is dedicated to the education of the whole student through the development of positive social, emotional, and academic growth. The staff is committed to addressing the growth of the individual in the home, community and school environments. Using a therapeutic model, we are committed to providing a safe environment where students can establish trust, build self esteem, develop internal controls and strengthen academic skills to fulfill individual potential.

      Support for student success is a major focus of La Vista Center and is carried out by a large, highly trained staff including Special Education Teachers, Instructional Assistants, School Counselors, School Nurse, School Psychologist, Speech Therapist, Workability Tech, on-site Mental Health Therapists and the Principal/Special Education Program Specialist who all work closely with students, parents and outside agencies.

      La Vista operates a level system that promotes and rewards positive student behavior. Individual goals and objectives targeting academics, school behavior and social/emotional growth are developed for each student through the IEP process. Students are encouraged to transition part time or full time to their home schools when they have developed the appropriate coping skills necessary to be successful in that setting. 

      La Vista Center provides the same academic content areas as our district’s comprehensive middle and high schools. Teachers use standards-based curriculum and maintain high academic expectations for all students. La Vista students are required to take the same standardized tests for proficiency as General Education students, with the necessary accommodations and modifications.  

      To complement the student’s academic program, students are encouraged to participate in the Workability Program, Regional Occupational Program (ROP), and/or community service with the goal of providing students with opportunities to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to transition successfully into post secondary education and/or the world of work.
