Laurel Ruff Center is a special education school serving students with moderate to severe disabilities who reside in San Juan Unified School District.
(Click here to check your residency.) Families of students who do not live in SJUSD should contact their local school district to discuss placement options.
CORE K-12+ PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
School Hours: 7:45 - 2:05 PM (early out each Thursday is at 12:50).
SDC-ILS: Independent Living Skills (ILS) Special day programs for severely disabled students in grades K-12 (age range 5 to 22);
CTP: Community Transition Programs (CTP) for students in grades 12+ (age range 18 to 22)
Enrollment in Laurel Ruff K-12 programs is an IEP (Individual Education Plan) decision. Students are usually referred to us by the special education staff of their neighborhood school. Families new to SJUSD are invited to directly contact us for information and support during the enrollment process. Laurel Ruff Amenities include:
- aquatics program (in our beautiful indoor heated pool)
- art & music programs
- speech therapy
- adapted physical education
- community based instruction opportunities for all students
- workability and prevocational training
- services for students with visual impairments
- extra-curricular opportunities include the Laurel Ruff Choir, Special Olympic and VIP (Very Important People) sport teams; and evening dances (e.g. the annual Boo-Bash and Laurel Ruff prom)
