Laurel Ruff is a special education school serving high school and transition level students with moderate to severe disabilities who reside in San Juan Unified School District.
(Click here to check your residency.) Families of students who do not live in SJUSD should contact their local school district to discuss placement options.
School Hours: 7:40 - 2:30 PM (early out each Thursday at 1:06).
CORE PROGRAMS INCLUDE:
- SDC-ILS: Independent Living Skills (ILS) SDC (special day class) for moderately to severely disabled students in grades 11-12+ (age range 16 to 22)
- SDC-AUTISM: Special day class providing best practices autism programming for students in grades 9-12 (age range 14 to 22)
- PROJECT SEARCH: vocational internship program based at Kaiser Permanente Hospital (this off campus satellite program is open to students in their last year of school eligibility who apply and are accepted into the program)
Enrollment in Laurel Ruff programs is an IEP (Individual Education Plan) decision. Students new to San Juan are usually referred to us by San Juan Central during the central enrollment process. Families new to SJUSD are invited to directly contact us for information and support during the enrollment process. Laurel Ruff Amenities include:
- aquatics program (in our beautiful indoor heated pool)
- art program
- speech therapy
- adapted physical education
- community based instruction
- workability and prevocational training
- services for students with visual impairments
- extra-curricular opportunities include the Laurel Ruff Choir, Special Olympic and VIP (Very Important People) sport teams; and evening dances (e.g. the annual Boo-Bash and Laurel Ruff prom)
