Laurel Ruff is a special education school primarily serving  transition aged young adults  who reside in San Juan Unified School District.

(Click here to check your residency.) Families of students who do not live in SJUSD should contact their local school district to discuss placement options.

School Hours:  7:40 - 2:30 PM (early out each Thursday at 1:16).CORE  PROGRAMS INCLUDE:

  • CTP: Community Transition Programs (CTP) for young adults with disabilities who need post grade 12 support to attain their post-secondary goals (grades 12-13+; age range 18 to 22);   students typically have already earned a document of completion (or diploma) from their home high school
  • CTP-SDC:   community transition program for young adults with severe disabilities who need a more self-contained transition experience to attain their post-secondary goals, grades 12-13+ (age range 18 to 22)  
  • SDC-AUTISM: Special day class providing best practice autism programming for students in grades 9-12 (age range 14 to 22)
  • PROJECT SEARCH: vocational internship program based at Kaiser Permanente Hospital - this off campus satellite program is open to students in their last year of school eligibility who apply and are accepted into the program

Enrollment in Laurel Ruff programs is an IEP (Individual Education Plan) decision. Students new to San Juan are usually referred to us by San Juan Central during the central enrollment process. Families new to SJUSD are invited to directly contact us for information and support during the enrollment process. Several enrollment forms are available for download (see the related files below, or the  school forms & publications link in the quicklinks to the left.)

Laurel Ruff Amenities include:

  • aquatics program (in our beautiful indoor heated pool)
  • art program
  • speech therapy
  • adapted physical education
  • community based instruction
  • concurrent enrollment at American River College
  • workability and on campus pre-vocational training
  • services for students with visual impairments
  • extra-curricular opportunities include Visual & Performing Arts, Special Olympic  and VIP (Very Important People) sport teams; and evening dances (e.g. the annual Boo-Bash) 

IMPORTANT REMINDER for current students: Should address or contact information change please notify our office staff immediately  971-7586; prompt communication of changes will help us ensure that transportation is arranged correctly.
