Behavioral Expectations

Mariposa Avenue Elementary School is committed to giving students every opportunity to be successful through the use of Positive Behavior Supports. At Mariposa, we stress three basic rules in everything we do throughout the campus.
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
Students are not just told about rules. Teachers and staff actively teach the rules, model the expected behaviors, and then reinforce students for appropriate behavior, both in classrooms and in common areas. Along with the rules, social skills are taught in each class. Social skills can be as simple as how to introduce yourself, how to ask for help, or how to ignore inappropriate behavior from others.

In order to recognize the appropriate behaviors of students, we hold a bi-weekly assembly . In that assembly, after the Pledge of Allegiance and School Song, students who have received Eagle tickets have the chance to represent their class on stage and to earn a prize for all members of the class. Prizes vary depending on the time of year.  These assemblies bring the student body together in fun and laughter.

Our Positive Behavior Support team actively works to intervene and support teachers, parents, and students as behaviors indicate the need for change.  Our staff has worked many hours to continue their learning in ways to monitor student behavior and to provide opportunities for students to learn appropriate behaviors rather than experience consequences for behaviors they may not know are inappropriate.

The staff remains committed to serving the students who attend our school.  We hope you will join us in our endeavors to coach and train the future leaders of our society.
