Entrance Requirements
The "A-G" high school subject entry requirements for Fall 2008 applicants to the University of Califonia (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems are noted below in the chart.
All required courses must be complete with grades of 'C' or higher. 'B' grades and higher
are strongly recommended. The minimum GPA requirement for UC is 2.8. It is recommended that students take the most challenging classes offered. Note that on the block schedule offered at Mesa Verde High School, one term is equal to one year of a traditional full year schedule.
A-G Requirements

A. History/Social Studies
| Two (2) years. One year of U.S. History or one-half year of U.S. History and one half year of civics or American Government; and one year of World History, cultures and Geography. |
| B. English | Four (4) years of college-preparatory English composition and literature. Not more than two (2) semesters of 9th grade English or no more than one (1) year of ESL-type courses can be used to meet this requirement. |
| C. Mathematics: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, or Higher Level Mathematics | Three (3) years. Four (4) years highly recommended including Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, AP Calculus. |
| D. Laboratory Science | Two (2) years. Three (3) years highly recommended. Two of the following: Biology (Life Science component) and either Chemistry or Physics (Physical Science component).

| E. Foreign Language | Two (2) years. Three (3) years highly recommended. Years of study must be in the same language. |
| F. Visual & Performing Arts |
One (1) year. Two semesters of the same class.

G. College-Preparatory Electives | One (1) year, in addition to those required in A-F |

Both the UC and CSU systems assign extra points for up to four units (eight semesters) of certified honors level and AP courses taken in the last two (CSU) or three (UC) years of high school. (A=5 points, B=4; C=3, D grades are not included in these calculations and receive one point only.)
