2009 Consolation Prize winners in the California High School Tennis Classic, Fresno.
After attending the invitation only tournament for the second year, the Ladies Mats captured the Consolation prize.  This is considered the largest high school tennis tournament in the country.  Congratulations coaches Ami and Keesha-Lu Mitra and the ladies tennis team. http://www.chsgtc.org/index.php?pr=Home_Page

2009 Mira Loma goes to the Science Olympiad National competition.
Science Olympiad National Competition was held in Augusta, GA this past weekend. Mira Loma took home tenth in the nation. This is Mira Loma’s second top ten finish in this competition in the last four years.
Congratulations Coach Martinez, Coach Karagianes and Science Olympiad Team!!!!!

2009 Congratulations to Pepper Youngs
Arts & Activities Magazine has accepted Pepper Young's work for the upcoming May or June 2009 issue.
Arts & Activities Magazine is the leading art education magazine in the Nation. Ms. Stiles submitted Pepper's work through the "Young Artist" program offered by the magazine.

2009 Mira Loma Art Student's Mural
Mrs. Stiles and 7 IB art students recently painted a community mural at RAFT (Resource Area for Teachers) at 3136 Howard Street @ McClellan Airforce Base.
The IB students created the mural design based on the theme of "creativity" and incorporated not only the Visual and Performing arts, but also Math and Science. The mural was completed in 6 hours and is a permanent addition to the resource area.

2009 Mira Loma High goes to the Speech and Debate National competition.
After being successful in the regional, Mira Loma advances to the nationals.

2009 Mira Loma High continues to place on top spots for the region in the Newsweek High School rankings


2008 Mira Loma High School places 11th at National History Day
Mira Loma High School students placed 11th at the 32nd Annual National History Day competition at the University Of Maryland. Raheem Huseinbhai, Younghyun Kim, Rishi Kulkarni, Jonathan Wong and Troy Yang's Historical Group Documentary, "The Oslo Accords - A Two State Solution" placed 11th in the entire United States. In addition Madeeha Ghori's Historical Website, "Burma's Long Lonely Struggle for Democracy" qualified for the National Competition.
Congratulations to all these students and their accomplishments.


2008 Mira Loma students win at Sacramento County History Day competition
Students from throughout Sacramento County met in the annual Sacramento County History Day (SCHD) competition at American River College on March 8. Using the theme, “Conflict and Compromise in History,” winning entries were submitted in documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, and Web site categories by students in grades six through twelve. Fourth and fifth graders submitted posters.

The next step in the competition, sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation, will be state-level judging here in Sacramento at the Doubletree Hotel May 8-11. State winners will travel to the Washington, D.C. area in June to compete with students from across the nation.

More than 40 Mira Loma High School students were winners in this year’s county competition.

2008 Mira Loma IB Students Exceed International Scores
Mira Loma’s IB Class of 2008 did a great job in their IB examinations. All fifty-nine IB diploma students were successful in earning the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The International Baccalaureate Organization releases statistics about students world wide who attempt the diploma. In 2007, the last year for which statistics are available, 78 percent of the students who attempted to earn the IB diploma succeeded.
Last year Mira Loma students sat for over 600 examinations. The international pass rate for these exams is 77%. At Mira Loma, the passage rate was 93%.
This is terrific news and congratulations need to go to our students, their families and the dedicated teachers and administrators of Mira Loma High School.
