Dear New San Juan Family:
Another year has begun, and I am as happy as I can be to be the principal of such a great school! Already the parents, students, and staff have been great, and we are off to a smooth start.
We begin the year with much to celebrate, not the least of which is the steady progress of our physical reconstruction. The sidewalks and walkways are nearly completed, and access to the campus from multiple directions is now possible. Completion of the sidewalks along Greenback is scheduled for the beginning of October, and the signage for McArthur Field and the new display sign is well on its way.
The new culinary academy building is mostly on schedule, with an anticipated opening the beginning of February. The technology buildings on the west side of campus should be ready by November, and access for staff parking should be available before that. This will increase the number of parking spaces during the day in our north lot.
I would like to welcome several new staff members: English teacher Tara Larson, who comes to us from Will Rogers Middle School; math teacher Melanie Walker, who is a former student teacher here at New San Juan; Charles Angelis is now full-time in our Digital Media classes, who comes from a career in the television and video post-production industry. I think we have built extremely strong teams with the addition of these new teachers.
Finally, I want to say “Thank You” to all of the volunteers who have already made this years endeavors successful. Our Alumni Association is the best – they helped us serve a hamburger lunch to every student on the first day of school; our Booster President Tom Day and his crew; Elizabeth Ruygt is our new SPAC representative and very vocal community supporter; and Andrea Peacock, Property Manager from the Birdcage Mall who has secured advertising and a 10% student discount at all stores in the mall displaying a special sticker in their windows!
This is one of the most exciting places I can think of, and I look forward to working with all of you.
Sincerely,
Tony Oddo, Principal
New San Juan High School
