Career Pathways

Going to high school is no longer about just getting ready for college or just a diploma. Too many high school kids want something more real; a good job while the decide what they want to do next. Most high school kids, just want some freedom and a job to pay for it in a career field they like.

At San Juan High School, we don't see it as College or Career, we see them working together. In order to have a real job after high school, entry level employees need some additional skills. Those skills are learned in both high school and college. Nearly two-thirds of all jobs require specialized training, but not a 4 year degree. We want to prepare our graduates for college and a career. For most graduates, they will need to work as they go to college, so the more career training they have, the better that first job will be.

High school nd college are just a steps to a career, between high school and a career is training at a specialized program, community college or 4 year program. At San Juan we focus all our electives on 5 industry sectors and start that training early:

  • Hospitality and Culinary Arts
  • Construction Technology
  • Transportation Technology
  • Media Arts, TV and Theater Production
  • Engineering and Design
From here, students are launched into careers and college. For more information, read the research at the following sites.
