Counseling Services
New San Juan High School offers complete school counseling services. They are also able to connect families to other counseling services offered in the district and the community. If you need to speak to your child's counselor please call the Counseling Office @ 971-5120.

Upcoming Events:- Sierra College will be holding a series of information nights for local high school parents and students. These one hour sessions will be offered on the Rocklin campus in the Learning Resource Centre.
- Parent Project. October 6 through December 15, 2009 at Sylvan Oaks Library. Registration required. Please see the registration form for additional details.
For Parents of all students: Spring Registration was done in December and January. The fall semester ends on January 14, 2010. Daily Planners are extremely helpful for all students. This is an excellent tool to keep on top of homework, project due dates, and test dates.
Homework continues to be an important part of your student’s success in school. On a “light” homework night, students can always review reading. Please encourage your student to complete and turn in all homework assignments.
Testing Information: ACT test dates: Dec 12 (11/6); Feb. 6 (1/5); Apr 10 (3/5); June 12 (5/7)
SAT test dates: Dec 5 (reg deadline 10/30); Jan. 23 (12/15); Mar 13 (2/4); May 1 (3/25); Jun 5 (4/29) SAT Test Basic Fee: $45.00 Subject Tests: $20.00 ACT Test Basic Fee: $31.00 ACT plus Writing: $46.00 Fee waivers are possible, see your counselor)

For CSU campuses students should take the SAT reasoning test or ACT. For UC campuses students should take the SAT reasoning test or ACT plus writing, and 2 SAT subject tests in different areas. For out of state/private schools students should consult the schools website for direction.
Seniors should complete the tests by December. Juniors should take tests for the first time in the spring.
- California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
Sophomores and Seniors who have not passed will take the test. The CAHSEE will be given on February 3rd for the English language arts and February 4th for the mathematics. The test will be given again on March 10th for the English language arts and March 11th for the mathematics. This test is for sophomores who were absent in February and juniors and seniors who have not yet passed.
- Financial Aid and Scholarship Information:
FAFSA applications (Free Application for Student Aid) are available on-line. Every senior should complete a FAFSA form. These forms must be completed on line. No exceptions. Help, as needed, can be obtained in the Counseling Office. Some scholarships are triggered from the FAFSA report, so complete the FAFSA even if the student is not eligible for other grants. Cal Grants GPA Verifications are due by March 2, 2009. GPA verification forms are in the Counseling Office. Some private colleges have other deadlines. Check the application!

Internet Access for Scholarships: There are several good websites that can be accessed for additional scholarship information. Most of these allow the student to do a “custom” search. The websites are:

Students with no Internet Access at home may use the school computers in the Library.
New scholarship information comes in almost every day! For this reason, the scholarship information continues to be updated on the bulletin board outside the Counseling Office. Information for all scholarships is available from the Counseling Office by filling out a request form. Some current scholarships include:
*HSF Scholarship Application Now Open Source: Hispanic Scholarship Fund Applications for the 2010-2011 academic year are now being accepted! HSF launched the application cycle on September 1st and the general deadline is December 15, 2009. HSF has a variety of scholarship programs available. Please visit www.hsf.net for more information on requirements, specific deadlines and application submission.

If your students needs a replacement I.D. card they must pay $5.00 to the Finance Office, bring the receipt to the Counseling Office and they will receive their new I.D. card.
