Facility Improvements

The SJUSD Board of Education has approved $27.4 million in facility improvements from Measure S and J bonds.  The SJUSD Staff has also been able to secure over $3 million in grants from Proposition 1-D bond election.

The New San Juan High School Master plan is divided into 2 phases.  Phase 1 includes the construction of a new culinary arts building, a new courtyard, renovation of the shop buildings, old music wing, and administration building.  Phase 1 also includes major street- scape improvement along Mariposa and Greenback as well as parking on the North side of campus near the gym, pool and practice fields.

Phase 2 has been determined, and will include a renovation of the theater and science & other classrooms, but will be funded with a future bond measure for the voters.

The bond measures will also help fund phase 3. This phase includes the conversion of the small gym into a Student Union/Library that will house a counseling center, the ASSETs after school program and other services.  Phase 3 also includes a new second gym, the demolition of the upper D-wing and C-wing, a new Senior Square and the renovation of the E-wing into a two-story classroom building. Finally Phase 3 includes the installation of a synthetic turf field and all weather track in the stadium.

This program begins in the Fall of 2008 and is expected to conclude in the Fall of 2013. All these improvements will greatly enhance the quality of the programs being offered at San Juan High School.  This Facility Master Plan is designed to provide the flexibility of spaces to allow students to learn differently in modern settings.
