School Rules
Pershing School Rules for Students
All school and district rules are to be enforced fairly and consistently.
Rules and procedures for specific areas:
1. Hallways
q WALK on the right side of the hall line.
q TALK softly.
q STOP at hallway intersections if another class is crossing.
q DO NOT jump to touch lights or doorway headers.
q DO NOT tag or touch other students.
2. Cafeteria
q Be orderly and courteous.
q Be responsible.
q Leave a clean table.
3. Playground
q NO wrestling, tackling, or excessive physical contact.
q NO spitting.
q DO play fair.
share equipment
limit games to a safe and recommended number of players:
basketball courts are designated for specific grades;
basketball games are limited to full court=14
half court=10
q Never kick a ball without a receiver.
q Never kick any ball on the blacktop.
q Upper field for grades 5 and 6 only
q Warning bell (5 minute hand bell) a reminder to get drinks, use the bathroom, and release students from time out.
q FREEZE bell means to STOP ALL PLAY, step out of the equipment areas, and stop talking.
q WALK whistle go directly to line. No drinks. No bathroom.
4. Assemblies
q Enter quietly and Wait courteously
q Observe when the speaker approaches the microphone
q ONLY applause is appropriate indoors. No hooting, hollering, or booing.
Appropriate Dress for active learning in the elementary school setting
q Closed toe shoes, preferably athletic shoes. NO thongs, platform shoes, wheelies, sandals without backstraps, or high heels.
q Pants must fit at the waist and be an appropriate size so as not to
sag or drag on the ground.
q Shorts must be hemmed and be within 1" of fingertip length.
q Tops must cover the torso and have at least a 3 finger shoulder width
q Hats may be worn but must be removed indoors.
q No clothing may display gang, violent, or inappropriate messages.
Inappropriate Items
q Personal sports equipment, including bats
q Electronic / hand held games
q Toys (except when brought in a bag for sharing in K, 1, 2)
q Cosmetics, including eye makeup, lipstick and gloss
q Scooters, roller blades, skateboards, shoes with popout
wheels; (bikes must be locked up and walked to the street)
q Excess money
q Trading cards, pokemon cards,
q Laser pointers, pagers, radios, disc players
q In addition, all items noted in the suspension and expulsion policy
which constitute a danger as, all weapons -real or replica, fireworks,
explosives, knives, controlled substances or purported controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, or intoxicants.
q Medications must be kept in the office and administered by school personnel under the doctor's instructions on file. Medications -that is prescription or otherwise- may not be carried by a student. Exceptions are over the counter cough drops in original wrapper or box.
All students and their parent(s) will read, agree to, sign, and return the district document entitled Grounds for Suspension and Expulsion.
Prohibited behaviors
q Use of profanity toward any student, teacher, or school employee.
q Use of racial slurs toward any student, teacher, or school employee.
q Use of gender related epithets toward any student, teacher, or school employee.
q Hate violence, sexual harassment, terrorist threats toward any student,
Teacher, or school employee.
q Selling personal items; extorting money from any student; stealing from any student, teacher, or school employee.
q Hitting or raising the knee to hit in the genital area.
q Spitting on, scratching, pinching, or bruising a student or employee.
