Dear Student and Parents:
On behalf of the Rio Americano staff, I welcome new and returning students to Rio Americano High School for the 2009-2010 school year! We encourage all of you, students, parents, and families, to participate in the many and varied activities offered at Rio Americano. Academic, cultural, extra curricular, athletic, social and community activities provide our students opportunities and experiences that challenge and encourage them to reach their full potential.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the first day of school on Monday, August 24, 2009. School hours will remain the same as last school year. Zero period will begin at 6:50 AM, first period at 7:50 AM., and school dismissal time at 2:50 PM. The early release on Thursdays will be the same as last year with a dismissal time of 1:35 PM.
Rio will be having a New Families Orientation information meeting on Monday, August 17th at 6:30 PM in the Betty Miller Theatre. The following day, Tuesday, August 18th, new students are welcome to attend Camp Rio at 10:00 AM and goes to 1:00 PM. If you are a new student to Rio, we invite you to attend the informational meeting and Camp Rio. It is a must for all freshman and new students. Camp Rio is sponsored by Student Government and participants receive first hand information about Rio from students. Not only is Camp Rio informational, it’s a whole lot of fun.
We are looking forward to your participation in classes and extra-curricular events during the upcoming year! Parents, we encourage you to be involved in your student’s school. We have an active PTSA and a variety of booster clubs with many areas needing parent volunteers. Rio is also fortunate to have a Landscape Committee that is comprised of staff members, parents and students who meet and organize landscaping work days to beautify the campus. Past efforts have really made a significant change to the campus and Rio is always ready to welcome new committee members. We also have a very active Athletic Booster Club and a group dedicated to improving our athletic field called ARSA. Being involved in school activities can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both you and your student. Working together, you, your students, and the Rio staff will continue to make Rio Americano High School the exceptional school it is.
Have a great year!
