Graduation Requirements

 

The graduation requirements for Rio Americano High School as adopted by the San Juan Unified School District Board of Education are listed below. Students in grades 9, 10, 11 shall enroll in six periods a day every semester. Students in grade 12 shall enroll in a minimum of five periods a day both semesters.

  • ENGLISH -40 Units
  • SOCIAL STUDIES -30 Units
  • SCIENCE -20 Units
    (Life Science 10 Units - Physical Science 10 Units)
  • MATHEMATICS -20 Units
    (Algebra 1 required)
  • VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS -10 Units
    (Foreign language may substitute for
    only 5 of this 10 unit requirement.)
  • ECONOMICS -5 Units
  • HEALTH & SAFETY -5 Units
  • PHYSICAL EDUCATION -20 Units
    (PE 1 and PE 2 required)
  • ELECTIVE -Variable Units

TOTAL 220 Units

There are a number of courses that meet the various graduation requirements listed. The following list will provide an outline of courses meeting the graduation requirements.

  • ENGLISH: Speech satisfies the requirement for a fourth year of English and may be taken at any time. Yearbook does not meet the English requirement.
  • MATHEMATICS: All math department courses.
  • SOCIAL STUDIES: Required courses are World History, U.S. History, American Government, and one semester of an elective (Political Science, Psychology , International Relations, Sociology, Constitutional Law, Philosophy, Anthropology, AP Economics second semester or AP Comparative Governments).
  • SCIENCE: All science department courses.
  • VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS: All art, theater/drama and music department courses.
    In addition to the unit requirement, the following competency must be passed:

    HIGH SCHOOL EXIT EXAM FOR ENGLISH AND MATHEMATICS ALL LAB FEES ARE SEMESTER FEES.
