About our School

Jonas Salk High-Tech Academy is a newly reconstituted 6-8 middle school in Sacramento serving approximately 600 students.  The school has a diverse student population, representing many parts of the globe.  The students at Salk high Tech Academy speak 14 different languages and 30% of our students are English learners.  The student body is predominantly low socioeconomic, with 85% receiving free or reduced lunch.

Jonas Salk students are immersed in a high-tech educational environment with over 650 laptops, digital cameras, and iPods available for student use in all curricular areas.  Each student receives a computer to carry with them during the school day.  These computers are used to enhance classroom instruction and teach state content standards, while also providing students the opportunity to learn 21st century technology literacy skills.  Moodle, an online learning enviroment, serves as the digital hub for many classes, hosting resources, discussion forums, and a place where students can submit assignments and receive feedback from teachers and peers.  Vistors to our school will meet students who regularly blog, collaborate through wikis, create podcasts, and produce movies to demonstrate content knowledge.

Teachers receive ongoing professional development to increase their skills for integrating technology into their teaching and student learning.  Everyone at Salk High-Tech Academy is here because they want to improve the student achievement for all Salk students, promote equity and access in education and assist students in improving their school efficiency, productivity and decision-making.  The staff feels that technology is a useful tool to assist in the advancement of educational reform.
