Nuts and Bolts - General Info
Uniform Policy
Please make sure to read the High-Tech Uniform Policy. The policy will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of all students and staff at the school. The uniform policy assists the High-Tech Academy with improved student behavior, more resistance to peer pressure and improved emphasis on academics. Shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase throughout the school year.

Jonas Salk High-Tech Academy does have a Uniform Policy. The purpose of the Uniform Policy is to facilitate a strong educational environment and ensure the safety and well being of all people on campus. If, at any time, a staff member feels that a student’s attire does not meet the below mentioned Uniform Policy, that student will be a given a “Fix It Ticket.”
Any clothing/hairstyle or writing that distracts from the educational environment, makes others feel unsafe, or promotes negative/illegal behavior will not be tolerated. There may be no red, blue or brown on any piece of clothing, shoes, hairpieces, and jewelry. Gang identifying clothing and jewelry will be confiscated immediately. Clothing and shoes need to be free of gang related material. Shirts and Sweatshirts are available for purchase in the Student Store.
The Uniform is as follows:
Pants, Shorts, and Skirts
• Pants must fit appropriately, worn at the hips or higher, free of holes and hemmed.
• Pants, shorts and skirts must be free of the colors blue, red, brown or khaki on them.
• Skirts/Shorts must be “3 fingers longer” than fingertip length when standing straight.
• Belts must be worn through the belt loops.
• No writing including numbers or letters may be on the belt or belt buckle.
• Layering of pants does not justify not wearing clothing appropriately.
• Under garments must not show at any time. Absolutely No Sagging!
• No pajamas or lounge wear.
JONAS SALK HIGH-TECH ACADEMY SHIRTS ONLY
• Only Salk logo or Salk issued shirts may be worn.
• Other shirts may be worn under the Salk shirts but must be free of red, blue and brown.
• Shirts must be at least “4 fingers” below the waist band of the pants when standing straight.
• Sweatshirts, both zip and pullover, must be free of red, blue and brown colors.
• Sweatshirts must be free of any inappropriate material, ie: sexual, gang related, drug related.
Shoes-No red or blue coloring may be on any shoes worn at school.
• Shoes must be worn at all times.
• Shoes must have backs or straps. Flip-Flops and clogs are not allowed.
• Shoelaces must be free of red, blue and brown colors.
Headgear-No headgear on at any time except Jonas Salk issued hats that have a 2” brim.
• Jonas Salk issued hats may be worn outside for sun protection.
• Black knit caps may be worn outside during cold weather.
• Sunglasses may be worn outside but not inside classrooms or at PE.
• The following headgear may not be worn at school at any time this includes but is not limited to: ball caps, doo rags, sweatbands, bandannas, scarves, etc. Hoods may not be worn inside any building.
Jewelry
• Jewelry must be free of inappropriate messages, spikes, metal studs and Playboy Bunnies.
• Clothes/wallets must be free of hanging chains
• No grills (mouth jewelry) may be worn at school.
Students who are dressed inappropriately will be asked to change their attire into clothing provided to them by the school. Upon the second violation, parents/guardians are required to pick up the item of clothing/jewelry that has been confiscated. Further defiance will result in a parent/guardian conference.
Students who violate the Uniform Policy will be subject to consequences for willful disobedience.

Jonas Salk Academia de alta tecnología tiene una linea de conducta de uniforme. El propósito de la regla de uniforme es de facilitar un ambiente educativo fuerte y asegurar la seguridad y el bienestar de todas personas en la escuela. Si, en algun momento, un empleado de la escuela siente que un estudiante no esta vestido de acuerdo a la linea de conducta de uniforme mencionada, ese estudiante recibirá un "boleto de arreglo".
No se permite cualquier ropa/peinado o escrito que distrae del ambiente educativo, hace a otros sentirse inseguros, o promueven la conducta negativa/ilegal. No se permite traer cualquier prenda de ropa, zapatos, peines/pelo, joyas en color rojo, azul ni café. La ropa y las joyas que se identifican o relacionan con pandillas serán confiscadas inmediatamente. La ropa y los zapatos necesitan estar libres de material relacionada con pandillas. Las camisas y los chandales (sweatshirts) están disponibles para compra en la Tienda de Estudiante en la escuela.

El Uniforme es así:
Pantalones, Pantalones cortos (shorts), y Faldas
• Los pantalones deben quedar apropiadamente, llevados en las caderas o más alto, libre de hoyos y hechos un dobladillo.
• Los pantalones, los pantalones cortos (shorts), y las faldas no deben contener los colores azul, rojo, cafe o khaki.
• Faldas/pantalones cortos (shorts) no deben ser “3 dedos más altos" de la rodilla.
• Los cinturones deben ser llevados por los lazos del cinturón.
• Ninguna escritura inclusive números ni letras pueden estar en la hebilla del cinturón ni el cinturón.
• Encamando de pantalones no es justificacion para no llevar la ropa apropiadamente.
• Ropa intima no se debe mostrar en ningun momento. ¡No se permiten los pantalones/pantalones cortes flojos!
• No se permiten pijama ni pantalones de sudar.
SOLAMENTE CAMISAS DE JONAS SALK ACADEMIA DE ALTA TECNOLOGIA
• Sólo camisas con el logo de la escuela Salk se pueden usar.
• Otras camisas se pueden llevar bajo las camisas de Salk pero no deben tener el color rojo, azul ni cafe.
• Las camisas deben ser por lo menos “4 dedos" debajo de la banda de cintura de los pantalones al pararse recto.
• Los chandales (sweatshirts), tanto la cremallera como el jersey, no deben tener los colores rojos, azules ni cafe. Los chandales (sweatshirts) no deben tener material inadecuado, por ejemplo: sexual, relacion con pandillas, relacion con la droga.
Zapatos-No se permiten ninguna forma de rojo o azul en los zapatos
• Los zapatos siempre deben ser llevados.
• Los zapatos deben tener espaldas o correas. No se permiten sandalias (flip-flop).
• Las cintas de los zapatos no deben llevar los colores rojo, azule ni cafe.
Gorros-Solo se permiten gorros de Jonas Salk que tienen un borde de 2”.
• Solamente gorros de Jonas Salk se pueden usar para la protección de sol.
• Gorras de negro tejió pueden ser llevadas afuera durante tiempo frío.
• Las gafas de sol pueden ser llevadas afuera pero no en las classes ni en PE.
• Lo siguiente no puede ser llevado en la escuela en ningun momento esto incluye pero no es limitado a: las cachuchas de pelota, los harapos de doo, las badanas, los pañuelos, las bufandas, etc. Las capuchas no pueden ser llevadas adentro de ningún edificio.
Joyas
• Las joyas deben estar libres de mensajes inadecuados, de puntos, de pernos de metal y de conejitos inadecuados del playboy.
• Ropa/carteras/bolsas deben estar libres de cadenas que cuelgan
• No se permite el uso de parrillas (joyería de la boca).
A los estudiantes que se vistan inadecuadamente se les pedira que se cambien a una prenda de ropa proporcionada por la escuela. A la segunda violación, a los padress/tutores se les va requerir que recojan el artículo de ropa/joya que se ha confiscado. El desafío adicional dará lugar a una conferencia con los padress/tutores. Los estudiantes que violan la linea de conducta de uniforme estarán conforme a las consecuencias para la desobediencia voluntariosa.
Binder Policy
In an effort to support students with organization skills, the school supports a school wide binder policy. You will be receiving more information during the first week of school regarding the set up and maintenance of the binder. Binders must be clear of inappropriate messages, pictures, red/blue writing, gang symbols, etc. Binders may not be red or blue in color. Binders will be confiscated if found to interfere with the safety or learning of students.
Students need the following school supplies: pencil/pens, binder dividers, pencil holder, folders, calculator and personal headphones for laptop and iPod use.
