Principal’s Welcome
A California Distingished School for the third time!
I want to welcome you and your students to Sierra Oaks. The teachers and support staff at Sierra Oaks are a fantastic group of dedicated individuals who are committed to providing a quality education for your children. We are working hard to continue to make improvements to further meet the needs of all of the children in our school.
Sierra Oaks is a high achieving school and annually receives a very healthy Academic Performance Index (API) from the State of California. There are several factors that result in this high achievement, but the most important is in the high quality of our teaching staff who have high expectations. The staff, parents, and students at this school have set a standard that will accept no less than a student's personal best. This not only applies to academic achievement, but for behavioral expectations as well.
I would especially like to welcome those families that are new to our school and encourage you to get involved. Sierra Oaks has a very active PTA, whose efforts greatly enhance the educational experience of your child(ren). Their funds that are raised go to programs, services, and equipment that directly benefit the children at Sierra Oaks.
These are a few of the recent benefits brought to you by the Sierra Oaks PTA:
Extended Librarian Time
A Computer Lab Assistant
An Instructional Aide
Staff Development
Step Up To Writing Curriculum
SPARKS Physical Education Program
New Computers in Classrooms and the Computer Lab
Assemblies
Science Enrichment Instruction (Science Adventures and Explorit)
Missoula Children’s Theater
Instructional Supplies and Copy Machine Maintenance
Picnic Table for Small Groups
Grounds Improvement for a Beautiful Learning Environment
New Playground Equipment
As you can see, the PTA provides great benefits to our students. So please, get involved and continue the tradition.
In 2006 Sierra Oaks became one of the San Juan Unified School District K-8 schools. In June of 2009, we will be promoting our first 8th grade class to high school!
I want to encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the school. I look forward to a positive future and continuous improvement at Sierra Oaks!
Sincerely,
Donna Kenfield, Principal
