The Arts are alive at Sierra Oaks! Although Sierra Oaks is known for its strong academic program and close family climate, we also have a wonderful art program that is expanding each year.
Visual Arts: Mrs. Sharon Harper is our wonderful art teacher. Mrs. Harper visits classrooms in grades 1st through 8th grade. She works with the California State Art Standards along with grade level curriculum to enrich each child's week with many different art forms.
Vocal Arts: Our music teacher, Mr. Jim Parr, brings a wonderful music program to our school. Mr. Parr sees all classes grades 1st through 5th each week. His curriculum is based on ETM or Education through Music. This engaging program teaches students the basics of rhythm and beat while creating opportunities for movement and fun for all. Mr. Parr also sees our middle school students to build on their love of music and singing.
Before School Choir: Grades 2 through 8 will have the oppportunity to join Mr. Parr's before school choir that meets at 8:00 in the library.
Instrumental Band: Ms. Deneal Hooper rejoins Sierra Oaks with her instrumental band program. This year, she plans to have 4 programs: Beginning Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, and Jazz Band. Students will be able to learn an instrument and feel the benefits of working as a team to make music.
Performing Arts: Among opportunities for class performances, students may participate in performing arts during the middle school elective of Drama and the Missoula Children's Theater group sponsored by PTA. (Look for information coming in late January)
Plans for the coming year include expansion of the arts program along with continuing our public art displays around the campus.
