NUTRITION INFORMATION

The Food Services department provides fuel for learning through meals served in our district’s schools under the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast Program.  Menus are planned by the district’s Registered Dietitian (also known as “Mrs. Nutrition”) to meet federal and state standards for good health.  With childhood overweight and obesity on the rise, it is reassuring to know that school meals offer the ultimate nutrient and portion control.  As regulations state 30% of calories come from fat and less than 10% from saturated fat. Our lunches provide one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances of protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories for each age group averaged over the course of a week. Click here for a complete list of nutrient information NUTRIENT LISTS.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE = STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT & STUDENT RESOURCES

EVERYONE HAS A ROLE IN IMPROVING SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

For additional information and resources please visit HERE:

Did you know?

  • Attendance and academic achievement are cooperative responsibilities between the student, family and school.
  • Approximately 90% of our district general purpose revenue is derived from student attendance.
  • On the average day, SJUSD loses approximately $78,500 due to student absences.
  • Schools do not receive funding when a student is absent-excused or otherwise.
  • When a student attends a portion of the school day he/she gains valuable instructional time and the district is eligible to collect attendance funding.
  • Increase A.D.A. of 1% district-wide=an additional $2,430,688 in revenue.
  • Education pays off in terms of a meaningful future and success in the workforce.
  • Having a healthy breakfast improves performance and attendance in the classroom.

We ask you to support our efforts to increase attendance by making a conscientious effort to:

  •  Insure students arrive to school and class on time.
  •  Plan family vacations during non-school days and summer break.
  •  Try to schedule doctor appointments for your child after school hours.
  •  Bring your child to school before and after appointments that are scheduled during the school day.
  •  Only allow your child to stay home only when he/she has a contagious illness or is too sick to attend school.
  •  Make sure that your child gets a good night's sleep and has a healthy breakfast to start the day.
  • To read more about the importance of breakfast, click on BREAKFAST
