We are updating our Facilities Master Plan!

San Juan Unified School District is committed to supporting growth and innovation in our schools. An important way to cultivate these values is to provide 21st-century standard classrooms and facilities to our students.

To ensure that we remain on track with necessary facility upgrades, San Juan Unified is updating its Facilities Master Plan, which was developed in 2014. This plan is designed to aid the district in making long-range facilities planning decisions for new construction, modernization and deferred maintenance of projects. We need your help to identify key areas of focus for our ongoing facilities planning efforts.

Get involved

There are several opportunities for you to get involved and make your voice heard to guide the Facilities Master Planning process. It is important for us to collect feedback on our facilities so that we can make informed decisions about how we focus construction and renovation efforts in the following years.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will help guide updates to the plan. Click the drop-down menus below to learn more. 

Process

San Juan Unified is working with AECOM, JKAE and Gary Gery Architect to lead Facilities Master Planning work. Currently, this team is conducting site walks at every San Juan Unified school site, and taking staff feedback.

Please see below for a tentative timeline of the process.

  • Winter 2023: Facilities Master Planning began with a series of meetings between the District, AECOM, JKAE and Gary Gery Architect.
  • Spring 2024: Site walkthroughs and feedback collection begin. Staff feedback collected through internal survey. Several options to get involved are available, including in-person forums and an online survey.
  • Summer 2024: AECOM, JKAE and Gary Gery Architect compile feedback.
  • Fall 2024: San Juan Unified School District, AECOM, JKAE and Gary Gery Architect share feedback and present plan to the Board of Education.
  •   Spring 2025: Upon Board Approval, Facilities Master Plan is adopted and implemented at the district level.

Our Priorities

A recent survey of our community revealed a list of top priorities. As we continue to update our Facilities Master Plan, we will ensure that the following community priorities guide our work:

  • Preparing students for 21st century jobs
  • Retaining and attracting quality teachers
  • Repairing leaky roofs
  • Improving education for all students
  • Ensuring students have access to a well-rounded education including music, visual and performing arts
  • Removing asbestos and lead paint
  • Improving drinking water safety
