Sacamento Bee editorial highlights Jonas Salk High-Tech Academy as example of school turnaround

The Sacramento Bee is publishing a series of editorials on school turnaround efforts this week. Read Monday's editorial focusing on San Juan Unified's own Jonas Salk High-Tech Academy on the Sacramento Bee Web site.

In 2006, the school underwent a process known as reconstitution. Jonas Salk Middle School was closed and in its place rose Jonas Salk High-Tech Academy providing a near 1:1 ratio for computers to each student, teaching staff dedicated to the infusion of technology in the classroom, and a new administrative leadership team. Since reconstitution, the school has been visited by educators from throughout the state studying the school's infusion of technology and the reconstitution process itself.

The accomplishments at Jonas Salk High-Tech Academy have been made possible by a strong partnership with the San Juan Teachers Association, community partners, and the hard work and dedication of teachers, staff, students, and families at the school.
