November 4 at 6:30 to see what is going on at the middle school right here at Sierra Oaks K-8! This is a new date, so please change it on your calendars!
· Sierra Oaks 6-8th Grade STAR test scores are higher than the district average? And, all 6-8th grade scores went up!! Way to go guys!! A huge thank you to our FABULOUS MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS for doing a FANTASTIC JOB teaching our kids!!
· Middle School Students get “Snack Bar” privileges in addition to lunch – If your student is suddenly asking for an extra dollar or two, they might be wanting a cup-o-soup, a cinabun, or other tasty treat! Available only to middle schoolers!

Sierra Oaks Middle School Needs YOU!!
· Just as the Elementary School at Sierra Oaks takes a lot of parent participation to make our school great, so does the Middle School! We need volunteers – from fundraising to commencement to social committees, grant writing and more. Game On!!!
· Boys Basketball: Try-outs for boys competitive basketball will be held afterschool M-F October 26th-30th from 2:25-3:30. Any student who does not make the competitive team or does not want to try out is welcome to join the rec team. Flyers for the rec. team are being sent home this week. Season runs Nov. 2nd-Jan. 14th
· Girls Volleyball team plays every Friday at La Sierra Community Center, so come on out to support the team! They are doing absolutely amazing!!

AWESOME Middle School Events:
· The Hollywood Happening Dance is Tonight in the MP Room!! Exclusively for middle school students - Tickets are $7 at the door - Thursday 10/22 from 7:00-9:00.
· The middle school fundraising committee (run by the middle schoolers themselves!) is hosting "Meal Time Music" in which students will be able to request songs for 75 cents each or 2 songs for a dollar. Mealtime Music will be played every Friday. Songs can be paid for and requested during lunch at the ticket window located @ Rm. 4 M-Wednesdays.
· UNDERSTANDING ADOLESCENT DRUG ABUSE AND ADDICTION Join parents on Wednesday, October 28th at 7pm in the Rio Americano High School cafeteria (4540 American River Drive) to learn more about adolescent drug use, signs and concerns. Information presented on teen drug trends (including street, over-the-counter, prescription, alcohol, caffeine, etc.) and testing. Gain knowledge to help your teens or their friends. Guest speaker, Jon Daily LCSW, CADC II, co-authored 'How to Help Your Child Become Drug Free.'
· 29th Annual Rio Americano Playathon November 6th! Join the Rio Americano High School Band for a fun filled evening of musical entertainment! Band students from local middle schools are invited to attend from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to play along with the Rio Band and enjoy musical games, and activities. The community is invited to the evening concerts scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m at the Rio Americano campus.

Middle School Electives Need You!
· The Middle School Teachers are asking if anyone has a used PS2 (Play Station 2) to use for P.E. We would use it for Dance Dance Revolution and other indoor physical education activities. If someone has a used working one they are willing to donate that would be fantastic!
· Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Liby would like to request the donation of any board games and card games for rainy day activities. New or used (with all pieces included) would be greatly appreciated! Just send them to the homeroom teacher.
· Technology - Mr. Le is asking for donations of any Polaroid Cameras, digital cameras, memory cards, or video cameras for the middle school. They don’t have to be the latest model to be of GREAT use to our students! Donations can be given at the school office.
· Leadership – Mrs. Cater’s leadership class is in need of markers, paint brushes, glitter, posterboards, etc. Please bring in whatever you can!
· Drama - Wednesday, Nov. 18th- 6-8 will be the performance of "Snow White & Friends" 7:00 p.m. in the MP Room ( as well as a matinee performance earlier in the day – time TBA). We are in need of costumes (donated or to keep for future performances). If you have any of the following you would be willing to share, please contact Mrs. Davis at monique.davis@sanjuan.edu:
o Prince Charming (youth medium or large), Robin Hood (adult large), Fox, Lion or Tiger, Squirrel, Bear (adult mediums for animals), cape for a queen & cloak for an old hag
o If you are interested in helping build the set, we need your help right away. With your help, our students will enjoy a greater experience in drama.
o We also need someone who is willing to coordinate a concession stand for that evening.
