Principal's Message - 10/22/09

A Successful Red Ribbon Week!

Thank you to PTA for sponsoring our wonderful Red Ribbon Week and decorating the school with red. The staff and students had a great time remembering the importance of thinking about the decisions we make and their consequences. On Monday, we were inspired by the Sacramento River Cats’ Tony Asaro, who talked about his experiences being part of the championship River Cats baseball team. He talked about the importance of the three "A’s": "Attitude" "Attendance" and "Academics". What a great message for our students! If your child has not told you about the assembly, please ask him or her. The rest of the week has been spent wearing red ribbon bracelets, red clothing, pajamas, neon or tie dye. Students also created posters for our hallways to spread the message of the week. Thank you to PTA members Denise Reyna and Pam Jacobson who organized this event for our students.

Tuesday night’s Internet Safety Presentation was well attended! We learned so much about how we can keep our students safe. FBI Special Agent Nicholas Phirippidis and Assistant United States Attorney Ellen Endrizzi gave an informative talk about the importance of parents keeping an eye on their children as they use technology such as the internet and cell phones. Another thank you to Christine Street for scheduling this event.

Our week will culminate with our annual Jog-a-thon during the day on Friday. If you have some time, I hope you plan on coming by and cheering on our runners as we raise money for Sierra Oaks K-8. Remember, making good choices needs to be a conversation held all year round, not just during this week!

Don’t forget to send in your child’s permission slip to participate in our PTA’s jog-a-thon!

Have a safe and healthy weekend!

Sincerely,
