Counseling

Counseling is available to assist students and their families. Parents have the right to participate in counseling sessions and decisions. All high schools and middle schools have counselors on their school staff. Counselors also work regularly at some elementary schools, and counseling services are available to all elementary schools. Teachers and administrators also are trained to recognize and help troubled students.

White House Counseling:

The district's unique White House Counseling Center offers low-cost counseling to San Juan students and their families. In addition, treatment is available for children and youth with serious emotional problems who are covered by Medi-Cal under a contract with the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services. Some students with Medi-Cal coverage are seen at their school sites. Students and their families can be seen at one of three conveniently located centers. Call 916-971-7640 for information or to request counseling.

The Alliance for Excellence Counseling Center is a satellite of San Juan's White House Counseling Center and provides Sacramento County's Division of Mental Health services to high-risk students.

Office of Student Assistance and Prevention Programs (OSAPP):

OSAPP coordinates student programs, parent education, staff training, and community awareness events that help students and adults confront and deal successfully with conditions that place young people at risk for substance abuse and other problems. Call (916) 971-7022 for more information.

The San Juan Unified School District's comprehensive Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides a systematic process to identify, refer, educate and support students who exhibit behaviors that interfere with the learning process. Students are identified for participation in SAP through referrals from staff, parents, students or community members.
