My class has always been a place that's not about grades, but rather it's a place where consistency of effort and consistency of behavior rule the day. I fully expect each and every child to give me nothing less than 100%--their BEST effort-- each and every day. Establishing daily routines, asking specifics about what your child is studying, reviewing with your child before tests, and intervening immediately if any behavioral or academic concerns arise are the best habits that you can practice for our student. We are a unified team with a common and very worthwhile goal--the success of our student.
All assigments should be accurately recorded in the homework organizer. Students who may have a question about homework should, first, refer to their notes; second, they should contact their study buddy. All assignments are to be 100% complete, neat, fully proofread, and display a full heading. Long-term assignments are due, without exception, on their originally assigned due date. You may refer to my class policies for more details.
America was built on and sustained by a "can do" spirit. Today, too many are taught or hear that they "can't do." Students all too often surrender because of past performance in a subject in which they've heard, "Oh, he's never been good in that subject." America was once a country of overcomers, and that, in a nutshell, is what my room is all about. I teach self-reliance, responsibility, respect, and, in short, character that forms the ground from which an education may best spring forth. You, the parent, and I, the teacher, are guides for our student. We may do all that we can to assist them, but they, alone, are responsible for their daily education.
I arrive quite early at school each day, and may be available immediately after to provide assistance. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at bkill@sanjuan.edu.
