Many Thanks

  • Thank you so much for the kindness, time, and talents extended to me during the holiday season.

  • Thank you to our room parents for coordinating and parents for providing the supplies for our Winter Festival.

  • A special thanks to Mrs. Linberg for being our monthly Art Docent and weekly library assistant.

Needed:  We use our thin and thick classic color Crayola markers every day.  They are starting to run a little dry and may need to be replaced now, at the halfway point in the year.

1st Grade Highlights

Reading progresses to Theme 6.  Imaginary and real animals have all kinds of adventure.  Next, Theme 7 focuses on character finding unique ways to solve problems.  Both themes continue to emphasize grammar and phonic skills.

How do we honor our country?  That’s our Social Studies theme.  We’ll learn that when we honor or praise; we express our freedom of speech.  We do this in class with the morning Pledge of Allegiance and through songs about our country.

Science introduces concepts in physical and earth science by studying air and water.  We’ll explore properties of air and measure and monitor weather day to day over the seasons.

Math continues to look at patterns and numbers to 100.  Seeing patterns in our numeration system prepares students for addition and subtraction and provides a foundation for multiplication.

2nd Trimester Conferences

Conferencing will be on March 17th – 19th.  Parents will be notified if a conference is required.  If you would like to request a conference, please contact me and we’ll set up a time.

Valentine Activity – On February 12th, we will be doing various valentine activities and having valentine treats.  We’ll end our day with a simple valentine exchange.  If your student would like to exchange valentines, I’ve found the easiest system is for everyone to write “From” and sign their name on the outside envelope – one for each of our students (I am also providing a list of students’ names, below).  Our Parent Coordinators may also be calling you to request party supplies.
