Hello and welcome to El Sereno High School Independent Study. I am proud of our program, which truly addresses each student's learning needs and style while maintaining high performance expectations in meeting California standards.

Students in our program need to be highly organized, self-motivated, self-disciplined and able to complete academic coursework at or above grade level on their own. They will attend classes 2+days/week while carrying 2-3 subjects at a time. Most subjects require 10-20 hours' work outside of class time. Fully completed assignments (including passing weekly exams) constitute a week's attendance.

El Sereno's flexible scheduling affords many students an opportunity to participate in work experience, regional occupational program, community service, or other commitments.

Jrs./Srs. need to have previously passed the CAHSEE (h.s. exit exams), while 9th graders are eligible to apply in the spring after accruing a semester's (or two terms') credits.

I am a firm believer that "esteem builds success & success builds esteem". The trick for most of us is keeping those two life skills balanced.  Sometimes another person offers a "fresh perspective". Please contact me if I can be that person who's willing to assist you in school-related, personal or family issues.

As the  school counselor at our San Juan H.S. site, I look forward to working with you this year.

I can be reached at (916) 971-5072.
