March 18, 2010 Mira Loma's March Madness is well underway - but it has nothing to do with basketball. March is the month in which our students complete their internal assessments and in which I send samples of student work to examiners all over the world. These assessments are actually included in the overall mark each IB student earns in a given examination score. For a more in depth explanation of Internal Assessment you can check my IB Glossary. I'm telling my students to begin preparing for the May examinations now. This is the warm up time, when they should be learning their examination schedules, checking over their notes to make sure they have everything they'll need to study and arranging study groups with their reliable friends. Just 20 minutes a day now will make the more serious studying to come much, much easier. We still need IB Examination Proctors for the upcoming tests in May. If you haven't signed up yet send an email to Madhu Karam Before I forget I need to send out a big thank you to the IBPO parent volunteers who have addressed all the FedEx waybills for me this year. Examination Schedules are available from the link at the bottom of this page, and they include the rules of conduct for the exams as well. As always please email or call with any questions or concerns. One other thing to announce. Principal Oropallo sent me a link to a truly remarkable website. The Khan Academy is a collection of 10 minute videos about mathematics, economics and finance. They're really good and will be a useful source of quick explanations for our curriculum in those areas.
