Nesci's Notes         February/March

Writing:

A typical writing week is: Monday=introduce the prompt/lesson; Tuesday=continue the work; Wednesday=partner copy due; Thursday=Grammar; Friday=book copy due.

We are now rotating the three genres: narrative, summary, and response to literature.
I am using the released state writing tests in these genres as assignments. This will help students be prepared for the next grade levels.

Social Studies:

We will have completed the California research report early in February. On February 3rd, during individual conferences, I will hand back the folders for final touches. The final copy must be turned in on February 9th. (If you plan to be out of town then the due date is before February 9th.) Students who have kept on schedule will have very little left to do after that conference. Those students will simply edit, add a table of contents, and put the report together. The report is worth 75% of the trimester grade and unit tests are worth 25%.

We will continue with Units 4 and 5.

Trips:

Our three trips have been scheduled. Letters and permission slips went home on Jnauary 25th.  All trips are by bus and require students to carry a bagged lunch. More information will be posted here and specific details will go home as the trips approach. If you are interested in chaperoning, please get your San Juan fingerprint  clearance. You must have been cleared by March 8th in order to chaperon.
